| Spokes 4-H Club |
About Spokes
Welcome to the Spokes website! We’re glad you stopped by! We are a 4-H club in south Thurston County. We are a little different from most clubs in that we are not focused on just one project. We have multiple projects going on and the members can pick and choose what they would like to be involved in. We are also open to more projects being incorporated into our club. Some of the projects currently being pursued by the members are goats, poultry, llamas/alpacas, pocket pets, home arts, photography and environmental stewardship.
So how do the meetings work you might ask? Well we meet together as a whole club once a month or so to discuss club business and work on activities that apply to most or all of the projects such as fundraising and poster making or a fun craft. Then the separate sub-groups meet as needed. For instance, the goat group meets once a month at this time of year. The other groups meet whenever there is a project to do together. Members also work on projects at home.
Members can be as busy and involved as they care to be. No one is expected to do everything that is offered. Jennifer, Rodney and Evonne are the leaders and we see ourselves more as facilitators helping the members learn what they want to learn. Each smaller sub-group within the club has a parent facilitator who helps just in that area. We like to have lots of parent support because we have a lot going on and having parent help enables us to do more fun stuff!
Another important component of our club is environmental stewardship. While we have a project with that title it is also something we try to incorporate throughout all our club activities. For us this means taking care of the earth by recycling and re-using as much as possible and trying to be responsible with our resources.
Our club changes depending on what the members want to do, we are always open to suggestions! If you are looking for a club in the south county and would like to become another spoke on our wheel take a look at our contact page and drop us a note, we’d love to hear from you!
Don't forget to visit us at the Thurston County Fair! We will have members and their animals in goats, llamas, pocket pets and poultry. See you there!
